Since the sci-fi thriller “God Particle” is about an international team of astronauts and scientists in space, a highly diverse cast comprises the movie performers.
One of them is actress Zhang Ziyi, the only Chinese actor in the J.J. Abrams movie, directed by Julius Onah and written by Oren Uziel. The other cast of the film include David Oyelowo, Chris O’Dowd, Gugu Mbatga-Raw, John Krasinski and Daniel Bruhl, reported China Entertainment News.
In the movie, the scientists cause a catastrophe when they tap into a mysterious power while searching for a new energy, according to Screendaily.
Although Oyelowo and Mbatha-Raw are English actors, Oyelowo is from Nigeria, while Mbatha-Raw is from South Africa. O’Dowd is pure Irish, but Krasinki is of mixed race with American, Polish and Irish blood, while Bruhl is half-German and half-Spanish although he was born in Brazil.
Zhang Ziyi’s acting skills has been recognized internationally when she was a nominee for Best Actress at the Golden Globe Awards in 2006 for her role in “Memoirs of a Geisha.” Her competitors for the award were Charlize Theron for “North Country,” Gwyneth Paltrow for “Proof,” Maria Bello for “A History of Violence,” and winner Felicity Huffman for “Transamerica.”
Her list of movie credits include “House of Flying Daggers,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “The Legend of Zu,” “Sophie’s Revenge” and “My Wife is a Gangster 2.”
Zhang Ziyi is married to Wang Feng, a coach in “The Voice of China” and a rock artist. The couple, who were married in March 2015, has a daughter Wang Xingxing, born in December 2015.
The movie is set for release on Feb. 24, 2017.
