Apple is still quiet about what the new iPhone 7 flagship will have in store for their loyal followers but a new leak now claims that the company might ditch the 16GB base model.
The Cupertino-based tech giant has always launched the measly 16GB option for its devices in order to make more money off of the phones with larger internal storage. If the base model is low, the higher -tiered models can be priced a little higher than usual.
Apple is expected to take out the 16GB model for the iPhone 7 and just use the 32GB model as the base instead It would also make sense considering that there could be a dual-camera setup with 4K video recording capabilities.
The file size alone of the 4K videos will quickly fill up the internal storage of the device. Users have no choice but to delete if they want to store more files because it has no microSD card support for expandable storage.
Kevin Wang from IHS Technology analytics company posted on Weibo that Apple has ordered to make 32GB iPhone 7 models as its lowest base product, Forbes has learned. While the storage option is not as large as the others, it would be enough for mainstream users.
Apple could sell the 32GB model at what should have been the 16GB variant's price. However, the company can just make up for their loss by trying to sell a 256GB model of their next smartphone.
Besides the increased storage, there is also another potential upgrade waiting to be unveiled. Apple could also feature a 2GB RAM for the base 32GB model and 3GB for a larger iPhone 7 variant, NDTV reported.
The larger 5.5-inch model is also speculated to be the one that will feature the dual camera setup. Several leaked images have already added weight to the rumors.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 7 with the 32GB base model at their WWDC event. The company could also introduce the new iOS 10 version which would be rolled out across iPhones and iPads presumably in a couple of months.
