Samsung's Gear VR was one of the first mobile VR devices on the market and pairs well with Galaxy phones. However, unlike the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive it lacks a controller. If leaked renders from SamMobile are real the VR headset will be getting the accessory.
The controller in the renders looks basic. An analog stick is located on the left side and A, B, X, and Y buttons on the right side.
The VR controller is coated with black resin that could be like the material that is added to the back of certain smartphone units.
A menu button and LED light is in the middle. SamMobile reports the light glows blue when the unit is switched on, and red to show low battery.
The other parts of the device are mostly basic. That does not include the Bluetooth sync button and two shoulder buttons, according to Android Police.
Meanwhile, the Gear headset controller is believed to have a new USB-C connector. It is another option besides the Micro USB.
An Oculus logo will reportedly be located in one corner since the device is powered by the Facebook company.
Gamers can attach the controller to the front of Gear VR headsets when it is not in use. This is a compact and shipshape way to use the VR viewer to play games.
Earlier reports existed that Samsung had rolled out a Gamepad with more controllers. However, the device did not sell well and was thus pulled from stores.
SamMobile has not provided any details about availability and pricing of the controller. However, it believes it could hit the market soon.
It would make sense if the Gear VR controller is available soon. The accessory could build on the success of the virtual reality gadget as Sony's PlayStation VR and Google's Daydream VR platform could be released soon. In addition, a Gear VR controller would allow gamers to interact with Samsung 3D content better.
In related news, an "Asus VR" headset was on display at Computex 2016, according to Android Authority. It has leather straps like ZenWatch and seems to have a touchpad with some buttons on the side. It could be a concept Asus Daydream VR headset.
