Chinese fans of the globally popular novel "Harry Potter" would be delighted to know that the author of the series, J.K. Rowling, is preparing some surprise for them. Aside from the screening of the eight"Harry Potter" films during the 19th annual Shanghai International Film Festival, China.org.cn revealed that Rowling has a mysterious surprise for Potterheads in the country.
That surprise would remain something to look forward to until the film festival as no clues were given as to what it could be. The publication said it could be related to the first installment of the trilogy "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," which is also based on the "Harry Potter" world, only set years before Harry's time. The movie will hit theaters on Nov. 18, 2016. It could also be something to do with the stage play, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," which is set to open in London on July 31, 2016. The two-part play is set 19 years after the end of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows."
This year's Shanghai film festival will kick off on June 11 until June 19, 2016. Tickets will be available beginning June 4, 8am.
China has remained to be one of the biggest fan base of "Harry Potter" even years after the conclusion of the last book. Last year, fans celebrated J.K. Rowling's 50th birthday, as well as Harry Potter's 35th, in an event that People's Literature Publishing House (PLPH) organized. PLPH said there were over 16 million copies of HP books sold nationwide, as previously reported here on Yibada.
Meanwhile, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" has released the first look of Harry, Ginny and Albus Potter, as well as Ron, Hermione and Rose Weasley. The first public preview will be held in six days.
