In terms of design and build, the iPhone 7 and the 7 Plus on release date will be near replicas of the 2015 Apple flagships but the inside components stand to get significant bumps. Up to 256GB of storage space and 3GB RAM will unpack with the next iPhone, new reports said.

Apple Insider said that the sequels to the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus might just look like their older sibling but power within are likely to be boosted up. Part of the next iPhone deal is the 256GB storage option that the report said will apply to both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

Apple Insider pointed to research firm TrendForce as source.

With the entry of 256GB model, it was suggested that the 16GB basic storage will be no more and set to be replaced by 32GB. This echoes the report provided by a China-based analyst this week.

It was unclear how exactly the new iPhone storage configuration will play out coming from the current approach that offers 16GB, 64GB and 128GB choices of internal memory. One possibility is Apple will ditch the 64GB model and sell both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in options of 32GB, 128GB and 256GB.

Or the tech giant will make a lineup of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB with the 256GB packaged as the high-end variant. If indeed Apple will unbox a 256GB iPhone, it is expected that the handset will come with the highest sticker price.

TrendForce also carried on its report the provision of 3GB RAM that will be exclusive for the iPhone 7 Plus. This syncs with analysts' forecast that in equipping the phablet iPhone with a dual-camera system, the device will be packed with increased RAM.

And as mentioned, the next iPhone will look nearly similar to the 2015 build though BGR said in a report that the 7 Plus will be slightly different due to the intro of dual-lens on the device's camera set up. But the rear finish of both upcoming iPhones will be cleaner as the rear antenna is believed to be pushed further on the edge of the device.

On release date, likely set August 2016, the iPhone will skip the rumored OLED display as analyst said that the material will have to wait until 2017. But the device will mighty up thanks to the combo of A10 processing chip and iOS 10, the latter set for unveiling this month via Apple's June WWDC.
