BIGBANG's Lee Seung Hyun aka Seungri will join the Chinese version of Mnet's "Produce 101." The 25-year-old singer-songwriter will serve as a mentor to more than 100 trainees from different entertainment companies in the country.
"Girls Fighting!" is a spin-off from the original South Korean survival show, "Produce 101," by CJ E&M's Mnet network. Seungri will join previously announced mentors - Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming, singer Yufan Chen and Hu Hai Quan.
The K-pop idol then expressed his gratitude in the midst of the show's press conference on June 2, Thursday. In front of many Chinese reporters and fans, he dished out that he was overwhelmed by his position as a mentor.
"At first, I was overwhelmed by my position as a mentor," All K-pop quoted Seungri as saying. "I was a trainee myself, who attended my auditions, and I also got eliminated many times."
BIGBANG's Seungri proceeded to add that he will concentrate more on the trainee's potential talent, instead of looking at their skills. He pledged that he will do his best to help the trainees' improve at a quicker rate.
The show is classified as reality girl group survival show, where famous artists will choose 11 trainees, from different entertainment companies, to form China's best unit girl group. With the four mentor's respective expertise, the new girl group will debut under one record label.
Adding on, the show will reportedly recruit more artists and guest for the girls' training, such as fitness training. It is said that renowned Taiwanese model-actor Ming Dao will be the host, while BEAST's Yong Junhyung will compose and perform the show's theme song.
Also known as Poppin' Dragon, he described his composition as the Chinese rendition of "Pick Me," Soompi reported. It marks Yong's first musical product ever released in China. Nonetheless, other details about the show are still being kept under wraps, particularly now that the production team is currently in its production phase.
Meanwhile, Seungri will make his next big screen appearance in the upcoming Japanese film, "High & Low: The Movie," which is scheduled to be released on July 16. He will play the cunning, cold-hearted, Li, who is the son of a ruthless Korean gang leader.
