Twitter's new live-streaming Periscope button was recently launched to its iOS app. This allows the social network's users to create real-time broadcasts from the Twitter app instead of using the company's live video-streaming service Periscope. They also have the option to download the mobile software from Apple's App Store.
The microblogging service's new "Go Live" button shows up on the tweet composition screen, according to Mac Rumors. It is located to the right of the Photo and Video media options.
If Twitter users click on the live-streaming button without first installing Periscope they will be directed to the App Store.
Last May the social giant started testing the feature on Android devices. However, it confirmed to BuzzFeed on June 2, Thursday that a small number of iOS users would start seeing the button on their iPhones.
Twitter's plan is to roll out the Periscope icon to all Twitter users on iOS and Android. The live-streaming service was launched in March 2015 and took on the similar Meerkat app.
Periscope is owned by Twitter but the two apps have operated independently up to now, according to International Business Times.
Facebook has started focusing more on the live video space including its live-streaming feature Facebook Live. It also added a "Discovery" tab in its Facebook app and is reportedly working on a stand-alone camera and live-streaming video app.
Google is also rumored to have a live-streaming service called YouTube Connect in the works. It will reportedly let YouTubers start live video streaming from the YouTube app.
Twitter and Periscope have also taken steps to provide a more robust experience for their users. Twitter recently announced that it would loosen up its rule for 140-character limits so multi-media including photos, GIFs, and videos will not be counted towards the character limits.
On the other hand, Periscope has made it easier for users to search for live streams, and launched the option to save live broadcasts for over 24 hours. This week the service also unveiled tools to allow users to block and report abuse during their live broadcasts.
Twitter was founded in March 2006 and includes its subsidiary Vine.
