Samsung is reportedly launching the Galaxy X which would be their first Android smartphone with a foldable 4K UHD Bio Blue screen that is better and more efficient than their current Super AMOLED displays.
The Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 7 and their Edge counterparts are already expected to be shipped in 2017. However, Samsung is expected to roll out one more experimental flagship with the foldable screen.
Recently, the South Korean tech giant has unveiled the new Bio Blue screen tech which is also foldable. Before its unveiling, there have been already reports of a new smartphone with an unusual screen.
Samsung's Galaxy X screen would make the smartphone another innovative breakthrough in the overly saturated market of Android smartphones. Most phones today just get bigger in size or smaller with no real changes.
Under the hood, the new smartphone could be similar to the expected Galaxy S8 Edge. It could pack the latest Snapdragon 823 SoC plus Samsung's latest 6GB LPDDR4 RAM that was also unveiled in the recent weeks.
The Galaxy X phone is also known as Project Valley internally, International Business Times UK has learned. Details about the new foldable screen phone are scarce but they are expected to have the similar specs with the other flagship phones.
Since the screen of the smartphone would already have a new gimmick, a curved edge screen is not expected. The Galaxy Note 7 Edge could still be possible as the company was rumored to be choosing between two prototypes with one having a curved edge screen.
Samsung has also filed for a patent application involving a hinge system that would presumably be used on the Galaxy X, Stuff reported. It could allow the smartphone to be pocketed while folded for maximum portability even with its large 4K UHD screen.
Apple is expected to spice up their iPhone 7 with a dual-camera setup, which is also expected in the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung's innovation would rely on the new Bio Blue screen tech expected in their new line of phones and phablets.
The Samsung Galaxy X is expected to make an appearance later this year but it the release date is still set for 2017 along with the Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy S8. Samsung might clear up the confusion regarding the foldable screen with 4K UHD Bio Blue technology.
