HBO's famous television series "Game of Thrones" has changed many lives and won even more number of hearts. The experience of newcomer actress Josephine Gillian has been no less life-changing so far.
The 26-year-old actress recently confessed to The Daily Mail that, in real life, she had been forced into prostitution at a very young age. However, one day she saw a website advert regarding the requirement of actresses for the film industry.
The advert required an actress with no tattoos, natural breasts and hesitation in filming a naked scene. Gillan immediately responded to the advert by sending her photograph and soon received a positive feedback. Although she was happy to finally have the opportunity to pursue proper acting, she did not exactly know how much this would change her life.
In the "Game of Thrones," Gillian was portrayed as red-headed courtesan Marei recently put out of her miserable life at a brothel by the High Sparrow, according to UPROXX. Marei has been a part of the show since the very beginning. She was first introduced in the second season as a prostitute who is taught how to fake orgasm.
"Game of Thrones" has always been famous for its approach toward graphic sex scenes and nudity. While the show has been exposed to a lot of hate over all these years because of its unbashed approach to nudity, especially in the case of female characters, it is important for people to know that is has not done any similar sought of disservice for the actresses who work for the show.
While the cast and crew might have felt uncomfortable at the thought of filming a nude scene, Gillian revealed how playing the character of a prostitute helped her escape from being one in the real life.
The actress also confessed having a traumatic childhood and how her mother had an abusive relationship. In addition, Gillian was introduced to alcohol and drugs early in life by a family friend, who later raped her and pimped her out to his friends.
However, her acting break through "Game of Thrones" finally helped her escape the life of prostitution. Even though she is supposed to do similar things in front of the camera as she did in real life, Gillian says that the cast and crew members are very supportive and that the atmosphere on the set is completely different. The actress is hopeful that her "Game of Thrones" breakthrough will lead her to other roles in the film and television industry.
