The plot of "Dragon Ball Super" will seemingly travel to the future with the upcoming "Future Trunks Arc." "Dragon Ball Super" official twitter account shared a new visual of the next storyline, highlighting Future Trunks and a future version of Mai standing and ready for a fight with a sinister version of Goku in the background with his back facing the camera.
"Dragon Ball" publisher Toei revealed back in May that "Dragon Ball Super" will feature the comeback of Future Trunks in a new arc, according to Toei official website. Avid fans can remember the last time that the older, future version of Vegeta's son Trunks featured during the fight against the Androids.
The story focused on how the older version of Trunk returned to warn Goku and the rest about the looming threat of the Androids that will kill everyone and turn the world into a decrepit wasteland. The arc eventually ended with the introduction and final defeat of Cell.
The imminent new arc will start after the recent events in "Dragon Ball Super." Prior to the latest mini arc that featured a clone of Vegeta, the last major event in the series featured a multiverse combat between Goku and other main characters, unveiled to the residents of Universe 7, and Champa the God of Destruction of Universe 6.
Meanwhile, Trunks' design was revealed revealing to many fans that the character's iconic purple hair color changed to a light blue hue. While the change might only be cosmetic for purposes of the upcoming arc, it is alleged that there might be a hidden meaning behind this change.
The blue hair color might foreshadow that Trunks will reach Super Saiyan Blue in the upcoming arc, according to Saiyan Island official website. Coming from a future with a very dangerous threat in the form of Black Goku, there is possibility that Trunks will have already reached the power level far beyond what he could initially manage.
The upcoming arc will focus on why Future Trunks came back to the present, this time faced with the threat of a new villain called Black Goku. The name implies that he will be the Goku similar to that featured in the twitter still, which raises the question as to why he look exactly like fan's favorite Saiyan.
As is conventional in the "Dragon Ball" franchise, the new arc is expected to feature a greater scope than the last and it will involve the Gods of Destruction. The arc will concentrate on Beerus, Champa, and their more benevolent partners in the Supreme Kai.
"Future Trunks Arc" will start when "Dragon Ball Super" episode 47 airs on June 12. Here is footage for more information.
