Actor Jung Il Woo has been cast in the upcoming Thai drama series, tentatively titled "Gon Rak Game Ma Ya." The 28-year-old actor is the first k-drama star to be given a protagonist role in a Thai drama.
The public relations company, Shall We Talk, announced Tuesday, June 7, that Jung will be playing the role of a savvy-bold Tim, who is the public relations manager of a major management agency. He puts down the scandals of his artists' with lies, the scheme his mother continued lecturing him not to do.
According to the publicist, Jung decided to be on the drama since Southeast Asia remains a largely untapped market for the Korean wave aka Hallyu. As a matter of fact, the actor recently left for Bangkok, Thailand on June 5, Sunday, to film the drama.
"He is feeling the pressure as the first South Korean actor to star in a Thai drama. He is trying his best as he challenges himself," the publicist said, as quoted by The Nation.
Earlier reports claimed that the drama's female lead is the Thai actress-model Mild Wiraporn. She had been cast to play a superstar, who became famous in a flash. American actor David Lee McInnis, who starred as the main antagonist in KBS2's "Descendants of the Sun," have also landed a role in the upcoming Thai drama, One Hallyu has learned. More details about the drama will be revealed soon.
Jung emerged on the acting scene in 2006 with a minor part in "The World of Silence." He was then cast in the popular daytime family sitcom called "Unstoppable High Kick" (2006), as well last year's "High-End Crush" (2015).
Meanwhile, Jung recently wrapped up shooting for tvN's "Cinderella and Four Knights," a fully pre-produced drama that is scheduled to premiere in the latter half of the year. The fantasy drama revolves around the enthusiastic young boys in their 20s - Eun Ha-Won (Park So Dam), Kang Ji Woon (Jung), Kang Hyun Min (Ahn Jae Hyun) and Kang Seo Woo (Lee Jung Shin) - who happens to live together.
