Ruslan Provodnikov wants to get into another big-money fight and expressed interest in becoming the challenger in Adrien Broner's next fight later this year. Provodnikov is aiming to become one of top contenders in the junior welterweight division again.
Provodnikov, who owns a 25-4 record with 18 knockout wins, signed a deal with Showtime earlier this year. According to the Banner Promotions head Artie Pelullo, Showtime wants to stage a big fight, and a showdown with "The Problem" is their top option this year.
"Adrien Broner, that's the fight we want," Pelullo told reporters via BoxingScene. "That's the fight Showtime wants to make, that's the fight we want to make and I believe it can be made."
It remains to be seen though, whether or not Broner is interested in facing the former World Boxing Organization super lightweight champion. Broner, who has 32 wins against just two defeats in 34 professional fights, won against Ashley Theophane via knockout in April.
But according to Pelullo, they were told Broner is willing to do the fight. He added they have also other options if "The Problem" eventually decides to go into a different direction.
The Banner Promotions chief said they will also try to get a shot at reigning World Boxing Council welterweight champion Danny Garcia. Former International Boxing Federation super lightweight champion Lamont Peterson, who has not fought this year, is also on Provodnikov's radar.
Pelullo revealed Provodnikov will likely fight again in October or November. But before getting another possible title shot or big-money bout, Provodnikov will have to score an impressive win on Saturday. The 32-year-old brawler will collide with John Molina Jr. at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in New York.
Provodnikov, who is coming off a fourth-round knockout win over Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez in November, is not taking Molina lightly. The Beryozovo, Russia native said he is expecting a tough fight and fans should expect fireworks on Saturday. Molina holds a 28-6 record with 23 knockout victories.
"I am pleased with the opponent that I have because John Molina is a tough fighter," Provodnikov told Inside The Ropes. "It's going to be a tough fight and I am looking for it to be a battle."
