"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 may kill off Ian Somerhalder's character Damon Salvatore.
In the finale episode for season 7, Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) went on a killing spree while inside the mysterious Armory vault.
The entire installment ended without revealing what exactly happened to the two characters while they're there.
In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Julie Plec revealed that they are still figuring out what exactly happened to the two male characters and from there, will write out the episodes centered on the two characters.
However, the exec clarified that some other storylines from season 8 have already been set in stone. Unfortunately, she didn't say whether or not the scripts have already been finalized.
By the looks of it, Damon will still be alive when the series premieres sometime this fall. However, it is also highly possible that Damon could die at the end of season.
After all, the actor already confirmed that he will be exiting the franchise at the end of season 8.
With this, there are also some ongoing rumors that season 8 could be the last for the once hit The CW TV series.
A few months back, Plec told E! News that the future of "The Vampire Diaries" now solely depends on Somerhalder and his co-star Paul Wesley. This means that if they want to leave the franchise, Plec will gladly put an end to their characters' stories as well.
"I finally realized that my destiny on this show, creatively, is tied in to Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley. And I mean that in a really good way. As long as those boys who now I consider my friends want to keep telling the story, then I won't walk away from telling the story," she said.
Plec added that when the two men are ready to say goodbye, the three of them will work together in writing the best finale episode for "The Vampire Diaries."
"When they are done telling the story, I will put my pencil down and say that I'm done too, and then we will work together to end it in the best possible way," she said.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on The CW sometime this fall.
