"Dragon Ball Super" has become more interesting with the upcoming "Future Trunks arc" starting in episode 47 of the anime series. The particular arc introduces unfamiliar characters and concepts, including the highly speculated Black Goku.
The narrative to be adapted in this new arc would somehow be deviating from the "Battle of Gods and Resurrection F," and most probably would include new foes and unexplored adventures. It can be remembered that the Future Trunks appeared first on "Dragon Ball Z" wherein the storyline of that installment revolved around android domination, which prompted Future Trunks to travel to the past to stop android Cell from being created.
Though his initial mission was accomplished, his travel accidentally brought the Future cell to the past that caused havoc on the timeline of Goku, which was not supposed to happen in Future Trunks' timeline. This another appearance of Future Trunks in this particular "Dragon Ball" series somehow indicates a shift of narrative, recalling his role in "DBZ" wherein he also foreshadowed major narrative changes, according to Forbes.
The reports and the preview of Future Trunks appearing once more in "DBS" immediately excited fans and even sparked series of speculations online. One of the most dominant and obvious rumors is that the Black Goku is not really Goku himself, for the real Goku in Future Trunks' period already died from heart attack. So far, the only certainty with regards to the upcoming arc is the fact that this Future Trunks is the one who appeared in "DBZ" as seen on his sword, according to Attack of the FanBoy.
However, another compelling argument was presented by Anime Live Reactions speculating that the Black Goku is actually a Makaioshin or Demon Realm Supreme Kai of "DBS." The reasoning behind of this theory is that Black Goku has been seen to be wearing a green Potara earring. It can be remembered that this particular ring is only worn by Supreme Kai as depicted on "DBZ."
However, though little is known, Makaioshin or the dark opposite of the Supreme Kais also possess Potara rings, and similar to a Supreme Kai's ring it could also fuse two persons forever. Thus, suggesting the possibility of Goku and Makaioshin fusion. But still, the primary concern in this theory is how did a Demon Realm Supreme Kai fuse with Goku's lifeless body? Guess we would just have to let the grand adventure unfold as the "Dragon Ball Super" continues with the "Future Trunks arc."
