Sony launches the Twitter Mission Sweepstakes for "Ghostbusters" fans to easily win prizes related to the upcoming film. Starting this week and through the next five weeks, those following the official Twitter handle of the film @Ghostbusters will have the chance to join some paranormal fun through online missions.
People who are eligible for the contest are 18 years and older from the 50 states of the United States and District of Columbia. They can win extraordinary prizes such as a trip to the movie's premiere or to New York for a "Ghostbusters" experience, hometown screening, custom design film uniforms and a prize pack, according to The Business Journals.
The missions will change every week and will be posted until the opening of the movie on July 15. Fans must join each week to be eligible for each sweepstakes prize package as the "Ghostbusters" returns after 30 years of taking the world by storm with the original franchise loved by many. A new international poster for the movie has also been released by Sony Pictures and it features the core cast.
Speaking about cast, it was Ghostbusters Day on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on June 8, Wednesday, as the new "Ghostbusters" stars Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig met the original stars of the film - Bill Murray, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd. The night was also graced by Ray Parker Jr., "Ghostbusters" singer, and the Marshmallow Man in costume.
This time, Director Paul Feig brings a fresh take to the comedy and gathered the contemporary funniest actors McCarthy, Wiig, McKinnon, Jones and Chris Hemsworth who will come this summer to save the world from ghosts. Katie Dippold and Paul Feig penned the film while Amy Pascal and Ivan Reitman serve as producers. The film is based on the original 1984 film by Ivan Reitman, which was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.
Since its announcement, the all-female film is already waging a battle against online haters. When the official trailer came out in March, it became the most disliked in YouTube history with 850,000 thumbs down.
Now, the reboot is not just fighting for ghosts but for controversy as well. It earns all the hate, using the current issues of class, gender and race that are likewise boiling in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, according to The Detroit News.
