Rumors and hints that circulated in the aftermath of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" indicate that Rey has the blood of a Jedi and her father is the self-exiled Luke Skywalker. But a new report that Rey a Skywalker has just been confirmed thanks to a new Disney painting currently on exhibit in the Philippines.
Star Wars fans can thank Disney-licensed Filipino artist Rodel Gonzalez for revealing the obvious that prior to Luke's disappearance he fathered a child who was left behind at planet Jakku for unknown reasons. The expectations are Rey will be outed as a Skywalker in time for episodes eight or nine but a new painting by Gonzalez seems to have jumped the gun on Disney.
According to Philippine-based online publication Yuga Tech, the latest opus by Gonzalez has unmasked Rey's true identity. "Beneath the painting done by Rodel Gonzalez, the only Filipino licensed by Disney & Lucas Films, lies the title Rey Skywalker, and is for sale in the exhibit for PHP120,000 (roughly $2500)."
The report added that going by the Disney artist's solid credibility, "it is hard to deny that she (Rey) may actually be a Skywalker." Yuga Tech mentioned too that the female Star Wars hero is the subject of numerous rumors and fan theories that point her origin to the Skywalkers.
And more proofs are out there that support Rey's Skywalker lineage. In The Force Awakens, Movie Pilot noted that Rey effortlessly picked up a lightsaber, an impressive capability known only to trained and skilled Jedis. The same report also cited Disney Infinity, in which Kylo Ren, the estranged son of Hans Solo and Princess Leia, called Rey as his cousin and therefore Luke's daughter.
Other online theories are in agreement that Rey is a Skywalker with some speculating that she is the reincarnated and enlightened Anakin Skywalker.
But per Movie Pilot, the strongest suggestion of Rey's mysterious roots came from the Star Wars producers, who indicated that the latest trilogy will indeed highlight the Skywalkers from both sides of the Force or Rey and Kylo Ren later reenacting the dramatic duel between Luke and Darth Vader (Anakin) in "The Empire Strikes Back".
Still, the final Rey Skywalker confirmation will only come via the Stars Wars: Episode 8, which has been set for a December 2017 release date.
