"The Last Ship" Season 3 was scheduled to premiere on June 12, Sunday at 9:00 pm. TNT's post-apocalyptic drama was set to feature episode 1 & 2 in a special two-hour event. However, the network decided to postpone the premiere that reportedly contained a shooting scene at a Vietnamese nightclub.
"As a result of the shootings this weekend in Orlando, tonight's originally scheduled season premiere of 'The Last Ship' has been postponed," TNT said in a statement (via TV Guide.) "Our hearts are with the victims and their families."
According to the reports, a man armed with a gun killed 50 people and injured 53 in a night club in Orlando at around 2:00 am on Sunday.
As noted by Entertainment Weekly, "The Last Ship" Season 3 episode 1 opens with firing in the nightclub. In response to the tragic incident in Orlando, the network decided to rerun two episodes of Season 2 instead. Meanwhile, the Season 3 premiere date has been pushed forward. However, the official date is yet to be released.
In episode 1 titled "The Scott Effect," the show is expected to reveal Dr. Rachel Scott's fate. In an unexpected moment she was shot in Season 2 finale and her fate remains uncertain.
At the same time, captain of Nathan James Tom Chandler is sent to Asia to investigate the possible mutation of Red Flu causing a new endemic in Japan. As for Mike Slattery, he takes on the role Tom Chandler on the ship. Slattery along with the rest of the crew heads to Southeast Asia to distribute the cure. However, there might be new challenges and a new threat in the region that may interfere the crew's mission.
In "The Last Ship" Season 3 episode 2 titled "Rising Sun," Tom Chandler struggles to get back to his crew as new threats emerge. In the meantime, he finds out about a dangerous new enemy and learns more about it.
