The recently revealed OnePlus 3 will face the phablet duo of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the soon to release Galaxy Note 6 or Note 7. Specs-wise, smartphone fans can expect an epic slugfest of supersized Android flagships but in the end, which among the three devices will emerge as the most gorgeous beast?
A close examine of the OnePlus 3 will reveal that in terms of processing muscle, the premium handset boasts of the Snapdragon 820 with a whopping RAM support of 6GB, underscoring the mobile device's mighty computing capabilities normally seen with desktops. The S7 Edge was RAM under-specced by 2GB, indicating that the OnePlus 3 will leave the Samsung device way behind and choking on dust in any kind of speed test.
It would look like that the only way the Galaxy line will beat the new OnePlus is with the jumbo Galaxy Note 2016 rollout. Rumors persist that the contraption that Samsung has put together in the Note 6 or Note 7 will be of desktop-class. The power inside is said to be an enhanced Exynos 8890 or a step up of Qualcomm's SD 820, labelled for now as Snapdragon 823.
But it turned out that the S7 Edge is doing fine as it is and can emerge the victor over the OnePlus 3 any time of the day. Pointing to a clip by YouTuber C4ETech (can be viewed below), 9to5Google reported that in series of speed tests it is the S7 Edge that proved more a more reliable workhorse.
In one test, "The Galaxy S7 Edge quickly reopens each of the 16 apps pretty much instantly, completing the round in just 33 seconds. But the OnePlus 3 is seen constantly reloading apps completely, lagging behind at 1:10," the report said.
The lag seems baffling as the OnePlus 3 clearly enjoys a huge advantage with its generous RAM chip but one thing is clear that the device maker is yet to realize but Samsung has already achieved in near perfection - Android optimization.
"Not only is the Samsung phone much faster, but it looks like the OnePlus 3 is in desperate need of an update to improve RAM management," BGR said in a related report. And one can only imagine how the Note 6/7 will perform even better with the likelihood that its unpacking, which rumors said will happen early August 2016, will banner 6GB of RAM inside.
The OnePlus 3 maker, however, will surely dispatch a firmware update soon to resolve the issue and with its $400 price tag, which is a steal considering the smartphone's high-end specifications and beautiful build, the choice is easy for most Android flagship buyers.
