HBO's famous television fantasy epic "Game of Thrones" is famous for killing off its characters quite frequently and furiously. With just two episodes left in the season, the series' fans are still wondering who all will get killed this season. Meanwhile, the case and crew members may already be planning for their farewell.
People might think that the planning a farewell for its beloved character must be an extravagant affair for the cast and crew members of the "Game of Thrones." However, the reality is somewhat different.
Actress Natalie Dormer, who plays the role of Margaery Tyrell on the show, recently confessed to Vanity Fair that the cast for the popular television show can only afford to offer bare-bones send off to the person departing. This is because of the number of people who are killed off on the show and are finally expected to leave.
On June 14, Tuesday, Dormer was spotted at an event celebrating her as "Women in Film's Face of the Future recipient. The event was co-hosted by Vanity Fair's Executive West Coast Editor Krista Smithand Max Mara.
Dormer first politely listened to how the publication envisioned the "Game of Thrones" farewell ceremonies for all those people who have left the show in the past six seasons. Discarding the idea of red-wine toasts, burning of the characters' wardrobe and cake cutting ceremony, Dormer laughed and said that the send-off is usually pretty simple and much less extravagant.
"If we did that we wouldn't have time for anything else," Dormer said. "We would just forever be making cakes."
The actress further revealed that the only farewell ritual that the show is involved with is show runner D.B. Weiss and David Benioff calling the character whose character is eliminated from the show by killing them off.
"My understanding is that there is homage paid that way. But that's as far as the ritual goes from my understanding," the actress said.
Meanwhile, is appears that the creators of the show like to pay different homage to each character. For example, Hodor did get a parting cake in his farewell.
Dorner further said that there is no point for anyone on the cast to shed any tears for the person who leaves the show. This is because after Jon Snow's twist on the show, any character could return back from the dead at any point of time.
While it is still not clear which lead character(s) would die in the coming two episodes, a report by The Telegraph suggests that Jon Snow, Bran Stark, Arya Stark, Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen might actually be safe for this season.
