Damon Lindelof, 43, the co-creator of HBO's psychological thriller series "The Leftovers", has hinted at what is in store for the much-awaited third and final season. According to Lindelof, viewers across the globe should brace themselves to see the new season, moving away from questions of Kevin Garvey's (Justin Theroux) sanity.
While in-depth details about the show remain scarce, it was learned that the filming is currently underway for the much-awaited "The Leftovers" Season 3. Much to the delight of fans, Lindelof acknowledged that the TV series has just entered incipient stages, pointing out the unlikelihood of Garvey continuing to scrutinize his spiritual experiences.
"I'm not particularly interested in continuing to revisit the 'Is Kevin crazy?' idea," Lindelof revealed, in a wide-ranging interview with The Living Reminders podcast in December 2015. "I kind of feel that the more interesting show at this point is that...we're no longer, we're done with the sleepwalking was a manifestation of Kevin's inability to come to terms with all of the trauma that he was dealing with both prior to the departure and post departure."
It can be recalled that the second season, specifically, viewers saw Garvey settling on a decision to grasp a supernatural means of ridding his visions of the late Patti Levin. In this way, Garvey died and resurrected twice from a limbo-like hotel and speculations claimed when he returns to life, his hallucinations were all gone.
However, speculations are rife that just because Garvey is not seeing dead people any longer, it does not entirely mean that there will be no more supernatural stuff going on with him. Avid fans would surely be disheartened to learn that they will never find out what happens to the departed, as further revealed by Lindelof himself.
Nonetheless, Lindelof promised that forthcoming Season 3 will be something else entirely, stating that the upcoming season will have a sudden departure from the previous seasons' format. Earlier reports claimed that the final season of the drama will take place in Australia because of its storyline.
Production will pick up where it left off last season in Austin, Texas, before moving to Australia to continue shooting, The Hollywood Reporter reported. To date, no word was given on the official release date of "The Leftovers" Season 3, although speculations are rife that the series will return in 2017.
