Jamie Vardy is a hot commodity this summer after leading Leicester City to a surprising title run in the English Premier League last season. According to recent soccer transfer rumors, Arsenal are eyeing a lucrative deal with Vardy after the ongoing Euro 2016 in France.
Vardy reportedly received a $28-million offer from Arsenal, who are aggressively wooing the England international, Sports Illustrated reported. The lucrative deal will give the 29-year-old striker $170,000 per week, which could be too much to match for Leicester City.
However, the Foxes are reportedly determined to keep Vardy at King Power Stadium. The defending English Premier League champions reportedly offered a contract that will give the striker $140,000 per week. While the offer is smaller than Arsenal's bid, Gunners admitted that Vardy is leaning towards staying with his current club.
"Jamie Vardy is, at the moment, at Leicester and from what I know, he will stay at Leicester," Wenger was quoted as saying, when asked about their bid for Vardy during an appearance on a Chinese news channel.
Vardy, who scored 24 goals and added six assists in 36 Premier League appearances last season, is currently playing for the England Three Lions at Euro 2016, where they finished second in Group B heading into the next round. After his stint with the national team, Vardy will resume talks with Leicester City, the Daily Mail reported.
According to the report, Vardy received the offer from Leicester City before the European Championship but asked for more time to think of it, saying that he is focused on helping England at Euro 2016. Leicester City vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprahba is not losing sleep, expressing confidence Vardy will accept their offer.
Srivaddhanaprahba said that their upcoming stint in the Champions League will be a factor when Vardy makes his decision in the coming weeks. The Leicester City exec added that they are planning to make more moves to strengthen their chances in the Champions League and Premier League next season.
"We keep continuing to believe that we can do something special in the Premier League and the Champions League," Srivaddhanaprahba said. "The Champions League is going to be amazing for Leicester, so let's see."
