The latest details for "Injustice 2" will feature rumored guest characters, DLC fighters and paid gear unlocks for the sequel.
NetherRealm Studios revealed their massive plans for "Injustice 2's" DLC as "Mortal Kombat" director Ed Bood told IGN during an interview that they will incorporate a more "aggressive" approach for the their DLCs in the sequel's post-launch.
Boon plans to have more than 10 characters in "Injustice 2's" rosters and NetherRealm will have a long period of in-game support similar as to what they did in "Mortal Kombat X" and citing other titles like 2009 "Mortal Kombat" game and "Injustice: Gods Among Us".
"Injustice 2's" current playable characters include classic heroes like Superman, Batman, Aquaman and The Flash, and are joined by new DC heroes and villains like Supergirl, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd. In addition, Boon teased that their might be another guest character appearing "Injustice 2" as he told Game Informer that it would be a surprise if he and NetherRealm Studios did do that within the game.
The first "Injustice" game featured "Mortal Kombat's" undead mascot ninja Scorpion as a DLC playable character along General Zod, Lobo, Batgirl, Martian Manhunter and Zatanna. "Mortal Kombat X" featured eight DLC characters with "MK" fighters Tanya, Tremor, Bo'Rai Cho and Tri-borg and horror and slasher icons like the Jason Voorhees, the Predator, the alien Xenomorph and Leather Face.
Boon added that they are also looking to have paid gear unlocks in "Injustice 2" as he does not want gamers to invest in months and months of their time to get the best gear for their characters. As explained by NetherRealm, the new gear system will have a certain effect on each character by unlocking certain abilities as opposed to look cool and intimidating to their opponents.
Each gear is earned during battles as a drop loots for gamers either winner or loser after each fight in "Injustice 2". Boon revealed that the GGPO netcode that they used for "Injustice 2's" online multiplayer is the one used in "Mortal Kombat XL" as they applied what they have learned from the game and use it to develop "Injustice 2" online rollback.
The sequel will take place after the first game as Batman tries to rebuild the world after Superman's One Earth Regime, while at the same time stopping the Man of Steel's loyalist in breaking him out of his Red Sun prison, unaware that an even greater threat is coming to earth.
"Injustice 2" will be release sometime in 2017 for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
