The latest details for "Tekken 7" will feature a rumored crossplay between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions and "Tekken X Street Fighter" will be in the works depending on the sequel's succeess.
Bandai Namco was in attendance during the Electronic Entertainment Expo event last week as they showcased a new story trailer for "Tekken 7" along with the announcement of a PC version and an early 2017 release date for all gaming platforms.
However, something interesting came up behind the scenes at E3 2016 were in an interview with game creator Katsuhiro Harada posted on Reddit a possibility of crossplay features for "Tekken 7" between the PS4 and Xbox One console.
While Harada's answers is rather vague, but stated that crossplay with both consoles are not technically difficult and it was on board for consideration. However, there are some steps in which game developers must discuss first before they make their decisions.
First of all is that the console makers mainly Sony and Microsoft must be willing to let that happen. While Microsoft is somewhat okay with the idea, Sony on the otherhand is mum about it and it will not be long before the competitiveness cools off to benefit the players.
The second concern will be the inclusion of the PC platform to the crossplay features since Bandai Namco already confirmed a PC version for "Tekken 7". According to Harada, crossplay with PC is much easier than doing it in the consoles. But, it also presents a problem as cheaters can create loopholes that can ruin video game experience to the gamers. Harada stated that it will be up to the gaming community to decide if they want to go through with crossplay between both consoles and PC platform, WinBit reported.
In other news, it seems that "Tekekn X Street Fighter" will be in the works yet again as the second crossover game could still happen, but with a twist.
Harada told Gamespot (via Attack of the Fanboy) that "Tekken X Street Fighters" production will depend on the success of "Tekken 7", as well as Capcom's new "Street Fighter" sequel "Street Fighter 5". Harada added that Capcom has been making tremendous efforts into making "Street Fighter 5" a success, while "Tekken 7" in arcades were very popular, thus in a business perspective it will not be a good idea to announce "Tekken X Street Fighter" yet and may have to do it soon,
Bandai Namco stopped that development of "Tekken X Street Fighter" on April as Harada explained that making the game could "fracture" the audiences of both fighting franchises.
Harada added that the gamers who are loyal to both "Street Fighter" and "Tekken" have been proved difficult for them to announce a release date window for "Tekken X Street Fighter", and so it was decided that the crossover will be put "on hold" for now.
The sequel will feature returning characters such as Jin, Kazuya, Heihachi, Hwoarang, Steve Fox, Asuka, Lili, Xiaoyu, Marshall Law, Paul Phoenix, King, Yoshimitsu, Bryan Fury, Feng Wei, Dragunov, Leo, Lars, Alisa and Nina Williams, along with new faces Claudio Serafino, Katarina Alves, Lucky Chloe, Josie Rizal, Jack-7, Gigas, Shaheen, Akuma and Kazumi Mishima.
"Tekken 7" will launch in early 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One and the PC platform.
