AT&T has finally started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5. The update is 1.6GB and includes features like a user interface, a special Doze feature, Google Now on Tap and other enabled permission controls.

While the other carriers in the US have already delivered the Marshmallow firmware to the two smartphones, AT&T is the last to seed over the air (OTA). The update also includes latest security patches along with new icons, UI changes and TouchWiz tweaks.

Although the Marshmallow software update was spotted on AT&T's Galaxy Note 5 in February, it took time to finally reach the two handsets. It should, however, be noted that the Sprint and Verizon variants received the firmware in March, while the T-Mobile variant got updated back in April.

The N920A model of Galaxy Note 5 and G928A Galaxy S6 Edge+ started receiving the software via OTA this morning. Marshmallow updates on the smartphones will help to boost their functions.

Doze and Google Now on Tap are the two significant features of the Android 6.0 software, as noted by Android Pit. Doze helps to recognize a phone when it is idle, which means when the user is not operating the device. While a device tends to lose 15 to 25 percent overnight, the Marhsmallow Doze feature has a phenomenal battery saving power that helps to bring down the power loss to three to five percent.

This means when a phone is activated on Doze mode, the device can run for more hours than it can in usual times. Google Now on Tap, on the other hand, enables context and time-sensitive notifications, reminders and information. It is easy to activate the feature by press holding the home button for long.

Marshmallow comes packed with Quick Settings and two-part notifications. It is easy to find app notifications in the notification area and the screen brightness slider under the Quick Settings. This section displays a shortcut created to settings menu, carrier information and battery percentage.

However, only 10 percent of all the Note 5 and S6 Edge + devices have received the update, 9to5Mac reported. Since the firmware is released over-the-air, customers can check the update manually in their phone by going to Settings > About Phone > Update. Then, it is easy to download and install the software.
