The latest GPUs from Nvidia, the GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070, are on high demand since they were released in May. In fact, reports have it that the manufacturer cannot keep up with the immense demand from PC consumers globally.
Nvidia is experiencing immense success with its latest flagship of GPUs, according to WCCF Tech. While the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 Pascal-based GPUs launched just last month, it appears like most retail outlets are running out of stock, with the majority selling out the cards as soon as they receive them from the manufacturer.
The shortage has become a big problem for consumers since most buyers are still having trouble in laying their hands on the GPUs. Furthermore, the shortage has made most retailers to inflate the prices of the GPUs because of the huge demand. With the prices marked up, the cards are still being sold out.
Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 is the fastest card that the company has ever made. Both the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 are based on the latest 16nm Fin Field Effect Transistor (FinFET) process. The cards come with a sum of 2560 CUDA cores.
The CUDA cores are central to the high performance and low power consumption associated with the two GPUs. The GPUs are relatively faster than their GM204-based counterparts, with the GTX 1080 being 25 percent faster than the previous generation GTX Titan X. It is reported that the add-in-board (third party models) are faster since they have been overclocked and altered in diverse ways by the third party manufacturers.
According to Fudzilla, Nvidia's GTX 1080 is currently the biggest volume high-end video card that the company has ever launched. As a result, more units have been made available than any other products from the company, including the GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti.
With regard to pricing, Both GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 come in two different versions - the Regular Edition and the Founders Edition. The high-end GTX 1080 Founder Edition goes for $699, while the Regular Edition is priced at $599. However, the GTX 1070 Founders Edition comes with a price tag of $499 only, while the Regular Edition goes for $379.
