Xu Jinglei's "Somewhere Only We Know" targets Chinese theaters on Valentine's Day.
The romantic film rakes 38 million yuan ($6,090,378 million) on its first day of screening, just ahead of the Valentine's Day.
The movie follows the life of Jin Tian (played by Wang Likun). Jin is a young woman who lost both her fiance and grandmother Chen Lanxin (played by Xu Jinglei). The loss of her loved ones left the young girl heartbroken and depressed.
While going through her grandmother's things, she accidentally found an old letter, from her grandmother's former lover. The incident, coupled with her sadness and depression, triggered her to flee China and travel to Prague to look for Josef Novak (played by Gordon Alexander), Chen's former lover.
While in Prague, Jin met Peng Zeyang (Kris Wu), a single father who lives with his mom. Peng decided to help Jin look for Novak, and while journeying through Prague, the two developed an attraction toward each other.
The movie is being scheduled for more screenings, in addition to the already scheduled multi-screenings on Valentine's Day.
Aside from its box-office success, Xu's movie so far is getting positive impact on the Chinese audience. Already the film is starting a trend where audiences propose engagements during the film's screening.
