WhatsApp has announced this week that they have achieved the milestone for 100 million voice calls every day and they expect the number to climb up even further in the following months to come.
Calling someone has been made easier with today's technology. Gone are the days when someone needs to find a phone booth in order to contact someone.
The WhatsApp application does more than calling as it also allows sending messages and photos which makes it one of the best all-in-one app for communications. Facebook's Messenger is even trying to compete with it despite their acquisition of the app by allowing users to send and receive SMS from their app itself.
WhatsApp is now boasting 100 million calls a day or 1100 calls per second which is not surprising at all considering they have over 1 billion users, Digital Trends has learned. The VoIP feature was just recently added last year which helped immensely in increasing the app's figures.
Users just need a good Wi-Fi connection or data plan when outside in order to use the app. It's more convenient compared to the traditional practices of before.
"For more than a year, people have used WhatsApp Calling to talk with friends and family around the world. It's a great way to stay in touch, especially when connecting with people in other countries, or when messages alone won't do," the company said in their official blog post.
Before the VoiP feature, WhatsApp only allowed to share voice messages with their contacts. It was not exactly a whole feature yet then.
Viber and Skype has taken the lead in the past with their calling features. Skype even has their credits feature to allow users to call non-Skype contacts through their contact numbers.
WhatsApp was made available for both the Android and the iOS platform, PC Magazine reported. The combined number of users helped them to climb up the ranks among the numerous communications apps available on the market.
WhatsApp is free to download on both app stores from Android and iOS. The company still expects their userbase and number of calls to grow even larger as time passes by considering that data plans get cheaper and more accessible for all.
