Chinese pop queen Faye Wong has taken a break from entertainment four years ago and many widely anticipate her comeback. It turned out Chinese billionaire Jack Ma is a big fan of Wong since he reportedly paid 160 million yuan or $24.47 million for her to perform in Shanghai. The Chinese diva also withdrew from the limelight in 2005.
After a hiatus for almost four years, the Cantopop icon is coming back with two huge concerts in Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China before the year end with tickets that are among the most expensive concert tickets. Furthermore, her concert venue can only accommodate 8,000 spectators. The Hong Kong Coliseum has a capacity of 12,500 people.
The singer is set to hold a concert on Dec. 29 exclusively for the Alibaba founder and his friends. She will hold another one the following day, which will be open to the public. A ticket costs 13,888 yuan per person, or $2,124, and the cheapest is estimated to cost at least 3,000 yuan or $458.81.
Wong announced an indefinite break in 2005. She was in the limelight again after she and former boyfriend Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse were back in 2014. They were reunited after 11 years.
Wong and Tse were married to other people and divorced. Tse reportedly proposed to Wong three times and was always rejected. However, some of Wong's camp did not believe the thought, according to AsiaOne, as any woman who loves her man will never reject him, .
Wong's last tour was from 2010 to 2012. Concert organizers are still negotiating with Ma who bids 160 million yuan, Apple Daily reported quoting Chinese sources. Wong's concert will have a live webcast which access charges are still being worked out by organizers.
Wong will reportedly hold a press conference for her comeback in Beijing on Aug. 15. Her comeback is speculated to be partly for her daughter Leah Dou's budding singing career. Dou is her child from first husband, Wei Dou.
Nineteen-year-old Dou released her maiden album, Stone Café in April. Her mother Beijing-born mother Wong has the influence to give her s career a boost as she is among Asia's most endearing icons in music. Dou may be at her mother's concert but they are not set to sing together.
Wong's career in entertainment started in the early 1990s and she was able to produce hits like "No Regrets," "Fragile Woman" and "Sky." She appeared in movies as well, such as Kar Wai Wong's "Chungking Express," "2046" and "Chinese Odyssey 2002," where she won Best Actress at the HK Film Critics Society Awards. The singer-actress announced an indefinite break after her last tour in 2010 to 2012.
