It came as a surprise to local media when Hong Kong singer-songwriter Faye Wong personally made an appearance to launch the theme song of "Fleet of Time" during the movie's promotional event.
"Fleet of Time," an art-house film based on the Chinese bestselling novel of the same name, launched its official soundtrack on Nov. 3 where 45-year-old Wong performed live on stage.
The press conference burst with commotion because of Wong's fans, especially when one member of the media tried to get the singer's attention. Wong, however, managed to control the situation.
The artist is known to be someone who keeps things to herself in private; she often refuses to do interviews or concert speeches.
One instance was when Wong was invited to answer questions for the media to promote her 10-concert tour in the country in 2010, video-streaming website Sohu said. Reporters who waited for about two hours were dismayed when Wong barely spoke to them during the conference.
Another incident was when Chongqing Morning News reported a story about her concert in 2012 bearing the headline "Wong spoke yesterday."
On Monday's event, host and singer Lin Yilun asked Wong what she thinks is the "best line" from the movie. Wong declined to answer and instead responded with, "Why do you have so many questions?"
Eddie Peng Yuyan, the movie's lead actor, saved the awkward moment by asking Wong again, this time with a general question about the song. The artist replied that she had a hard time recording the song so she had to do it twice.
The last time Wong made it in headlines was when speculations on her rekindling relationship with actor Nicholas Tse came out.
"Fleet of Time," meanwhile, focuses on the lives of five young Chinese during the '90s. The movie is expected to be released in China on Dec. 12, the day the Chinese regard as the perfect day to "show your love."
