Faye Wong, popular Chinese-Hong Kong singer-songwriter and actress, will release the music video of Teresa Teng’s last unfinished song, after completing the piece in commemoration of the icon’s 20th death anniversary.
Teng, one of the most famous Chinese-speaking singers, died in 1995 and left behind an unfinished piece entitled "Qingping (Purity and Peace) Song." The late artist took motivation from a poem made by Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai.
The song was unofficially released until the unveiling of the music video on May 8 at exactly 5:08 in the afternoon. Proceeds from the single's sales will be given to charity.
The music video will feature both Wong and Teng.
Wong first did a "collaboration" with the late singer on May 19, 2013, during a memorial concert in Beijing hosted by the Teresa Teng Culture and Education Foundation. Teng performed the first part of the "Qingping Song" through a video, while Wong took the stage to finish the rendition.
Though Teng was not able to release the song, she was able to give a demo tape to Hong Kong PolyGram Records Company. The warehouse, where the demo was stored, was caught on fire in 1996, but Teng's demo of "Qingping Tune" remained undestroyed.
According to the pop diva, Teng was one of her inspirations to pursue her own career. She shared that she grew up listening to the late artist's songs.
Wong further said that her admiration for Teng remained the same since she started her singing career. She first captured the hearts of Chinese in the early 1990s by singing ballads in Cantonese.
