The most prestigious tournament in Grand Slam tennis is underway and the predictions are rolling in.
The overwhelming favorite to take home the men's title is Novak Djokovic and with good reason. The Serbian has won five of the six grand slam tournaments since 2015. He beat Andy Murray in this year's Australian and French Open tournaments and looks on course to complete the calendar grand slam.
However, the bets on The Joker are not unanimous. As shown in this ESPN graphic, four out of 14 experts chose Andy Murray as their bet to win the title and John McEnroe is one of them.
McEnroe told the The Daily Mail that Wimbledon presents the best opportunity for Murray to end Djokovic's dominance.
'In ways he's getting closer. I do think Wimbledon is his best chance,' said McEnroe. "If you were to say in terms of surface, I think he's best suited on grass and just having the crowd more on his side here at Wimbledon. So I think his best chance, not that he can't beat Djokovic at the US Open, he beat him in Rome not long ago, but his record has recently not been good."
Murray has only won twice out of his last 15 matches against the World no.1. What does work for him is that the draw has been made and he won't have to face Djokovic until the Finals.
Britain's top player is leaving no stone unturned in order to win the title at home against the greatest player in recent years. He recently reunited with Ivan Lendl, his former coach who brought him to the pinnacle of his career in 2012 to 2014. It figures that he would need more help in his greatest challenge. McEnroe says it will also give Murray a psychological advantage.
"To me it's not surprising, it's not a no-brainer, but I think the fact his best success was with Ivan, it makes sense to give this another shot given the circumstances," McEnroe said. "It doesn't surprise me. I think it makes people think - if you get in someone's head in any way - whether that can make a difference, whether he makes a difference."
However, Djokovic won't back down as he is chasing history again. He is on-course for the Calendar Grand Slam that eluded him in 2015. With the top two players motivated to take on each other, this promises to be an explosive Wimbledon tourney.
