Apple's upcoming iPhone 8 and subsequent iPhones starting in 2017 would feature wireless charging technology which is already present in some Android smartphones today including the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the Galaxy Note 4.
Sun Changxu, a Chinese analyst, claimed that Apple will be including the wireless charging support for the iPhone 8 and eight more iPhone models in the future. It is not clear whether the technology would be present for the upcoming iPhone 7 this year or not but the lack of the rumor in the earlier reports suggests that it won't be present.
Wireless charging is not entirely a revolutionary tech. The smartphone will still be needed to be placed on a Qi charging pad and it will not be completely wireless at all considering that it is still required to be plugged in to a wall socket.
Apple is now reportedly teaming up with LG Innotek to produce the required wireless charging circuit that would enable faster wireless charging speeds, WCCFTech has learned. The LG subsidiary has seen success in their new wireless chargers that were able to deliver up to 15 watts of power to the smartphone batteries.
Besides the wireless charging capabilities, there are more interesting specs of the upcoming iPhone in 2017. The iPhone 8 is expected to rock a 5.8-inch OLED panel and Apple's new A11 SoC, Phone Radar reported.
Using an OLED screen would work great in tandem with the battery and the wireless charging. The rumored dark theme on the upcoming iOS 10 would then make more sense as the darker the OLED screen, the less battery power it consumes overall which could lead to significant power savings in a day.
The new A11 chip is also rumored to be manufactured using the new cutting edge 7nm process. TSMC reportedly won the contract to produce the said chips for the iPhone 8.
More people are now looking forward to the iPhone 8 instead of the iPhone 7, which has yet to be revealed by Apple. The interesting features on the iPhone for 2017 certainly outweigh this year's new iPhone as critics say that the latter will be one boring smartphone.
