AMD Radeon RX 480 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 are the best graphic cards in the market with the increasing need for virtual reality (VR). While AMD RX 480 cannot rival Nvidia GTX 1080 in terms of performance, for some reasons users may choose to go for the former.
AMD seems to have planned everything effectively with its latest Radeon RX 480. With Nvidia's latest GPUs experiencing shortage because of high demand, AMD appears to have capitalized on the problem to supply more of its graphic cards.
AMD's first shipment of the RX 480 GPU is hitting the United States stores, and the company has supplied the cards in surplus. A user reported via Reddit that one Microcenter store in Overland Park Kansas will receive 100 units of the AMD RX 480 on June 28, which is huge compared to the 4 Nvidia GTX 1080s the same store received during the launch.
Currently, the GTX 1080 is still experiencing shortage in terms of supply, with most stores that still have the cards limiting them to only one card per customer. Although the GTX 1080 Pascal-based GPUs launched just last month, it appears like most retail outlets are running out of stock, with the majority selling out the cards as soon as they receive them from the manufacturer.
Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 is the fastest card that the company has ever made. The GTX 1080 is based on the latest 16nm Fin Field Effect Transistor (FinFET) process. The card comes with a sum of 2560 CUDA cores.
The CUDA cores are central to the high performance and low power consumption associated with the Nvidia's GPU. It is reported that the GTX 1080 is 25 percent faster than the previous generation GTX Titan X. As is that is not enough, the add-in-board (third party model) is faster since it has been overclocked and altered in diverse ways by the third party manufacturers.
With regard to performance, the same cannot be said about AMD's RX 480. However, GTX 1080 is much more expensive with the Founder's Edition going for $699, according to Gearnuke. AMD RX 480 is priced at $249.
