Rihanna's new song titled "Sledgehammer" that was featured in the latest "Star Trek Beyond" trailer is now available for streaming. Cast members of the movie have also taken to social media to applaud the singer for her new single especially in the wake of Anton Yelchin's death.
The "Work" crooner released her new single "Sledgehammer" on Monday, June 27, that also serves as the theme song for the upcoming movie "Star Trek Beyond." The track was written by Sia specifically for the film, according to Entertainment Weekly. The song features Rihanna's powerful vocals as she sings about pain, letting go, breaking through a wall and survival.
"Sledgehammer" was initially featured in the third trailer for "Star Trek Beyond." The said video was also released on Monday. Rihanna even took to Instagram to post a quick clip of her new track. She also uploaded an image of herself with an alien-like make-up. She even described herself as a "Star Trek" fan and stated that she felt honored with the chance to sing a theme song for the upcoming movie. Rihanna's new song is now available on Tidal and iTunes.
Meanwhile, "Star Trek Beyond" cast members Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto each took to social media shortly after the release of Rihanna's "Sledgehammer," as well as the movie's new trailer, E! News reported. Saldana, who portrays Uhura in the film, shared the same clip that Rihanna uploaded on her Instagram account. In her post, the actress thanked the singer for "a beautiful song during one of the most difficult times for our StarTrek family."
Saldana was referring to the death of Yelchin, who also starred in the film as Chekov. The actor died in a car accident on June 19, Sunday. Apart from the actress, co-star Quinto also wrote an emotional message on Instagram, as indicated in the same report. He described the week as a sad one following Yelchin's accident. He also praised Rihanna and her new single. Quinto, who stars as Spock in "Star Trek Beyond," stated that the singer was able to introduce a ray of light during a dark time in the "Star Trek" family.
"Star Trek Beyond" will hit movie theaters on July 22.
