The Boston Red Sox are continuously being linked to possible deals this summer. And according to recent MLB trade rumors, the Red Sox are reportedly interested in pitchers Ervin Santana, Julio Teheran and Arodys Vizcaino.
The Minnesota Twins could eventually decide to shop starting pitcher Ervin Santana in the coming weeks. If they decide to move Santana, the Twins are expected to get a lot of offers, the Boston Globe reported.
One American League assistant general manager was quoted as saying that the Red Sox are one of the teams who could make a run at Santana. The source also mentioned that the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles could also make a strong bid to acquire the right hander.
Santana has been struggling all season long, tallying a 2-7 record in 14 starts for the Twins. The 12-year-veteran has only 55 strikeouts and a 4.64 ERA this season. However, most analysts believe that a change of scenery could work wonders for Santana, who will earn $13.5 million a year until the 2018 MLB season.
Aside from Santana, the Red Sox are also keeping an eye on Atlanta Braves pitchers Teheran and Vizcaino. According to MassLive, MLB insider Jim Bowden took to Twitter to reveal that the Red Sox have already reached out to Atlanta for a possible trade.
However, there is no imminent deal between the Red Sox and Braves at this point. But they could eventually pull the trigger on a blockbuster deal later in the summer, depending on how the two teams will perform in the coming weeks.
Teheran has started in 16 games for the Braves this season, where he tallied a 3-7 record with a 2.46 ERA and 99 strikeouts. Vizcaino, on the other hand, is having a solid season for Atlanta, throwing 45 strikeouts for 10 saves and 1.93 ERA in 34 appearances this year.
Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski recently confirmed to reporters that there are five teams who are willing to make a deal. However, he quickly added that it is still too early to make a decision on whether to become buyers or sellers in the coming weeks.
"I can tell you I've done a great deal of work and there's five clubs that are willing to talk about it, and it's the same five clubs who have been at it all year," Dombrowski said. "So it's still a little early for that type of situation."
