Fans have to wait a little bit longer after the highly anticipated "Maze Runner 3" release date was moved to Jan. 12, 2018. Fox has decided to delay the premiere for nearly a year after its lead actor Dylan O'Brien suffered serious on-set injuries.
The initial release date for the third and final film of the series was originally set on Feb. 17, 2017. O'Brien suffered severe injuries on the set while filming in Vancouver, Canada in March. WorkSafeBC revealed that the "Teen Wolf" star sustained facial fractures, concussion and lacerations.
With the severity of O'Brien's fractures, the initial resumption for filming "Maze Runner 3" was canceled on May 9. Fox has made the final decision to shut down the filming of "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" for the foreseeable future as the actor recovers.
"The resumption of principal photography on Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O'Brien more time to fully recover," The Hollywood Reporter quoted Fox as saying. "We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible."
As of this date, the production has not released any confirmation on when "Maze Runner 3" will resume filming again. It is said that the entire cast and crew were advised to pack up shooting until O'Brien has fully recovered.
O'Brien publicist Jennifer Allen supported the Fox's statement when she confirmed that the former's injuries are very serious, and he needs more time to fully recover.
"Maze Runner 3" based on the Dystopian teen science fiction written by James Dashner follows the story of Thomas (O'Brien) and the Gladers as they cope with the post-apocalyptic world outside the Maze. He is tasked to find a cure to the deadly disease, Flare.
With the film's release date moving to 2018, Fox has also made some adjustment for other films including "Morgan," "Keeping up with the Joneses," "Rules Don't Apply" and "Red Sparrow," according to Entertainment Weekly. The studio also changed the premiere for "Murder on the Orient Express," "Predator" and two untitled Marvel films for release in March and June 2018 respectively.
