Rumored to be discontinued by Apple, will the MacBook Air 2016 release still materialize? Reports from Asia suggested that the ultraportable laptop will still see a refresh this year, perhaps the last of the cycle, but with minor specs bumps and it could happen real soon with the old model hitting its lowest price at $800 on eBay.
The deal is for the 13-inch MacBook Air that boasts of an Intel Core 15 processor and 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage space. The original selling price is $1099 so Mac fans taking advantage of the promo stand to save $300. The items up for grabs over at eBay are certified as brand new and users will get to enjoy two years of limited warranty.
According to Apple Insider, the asking price for the 13-inch MBA is likely the lowest to date and as supplies are limited it's best to hustle up with the buy decision.
It might be that the old MacBook Air models will still see bigger discounts from Apple once the 2016 upgrades have been revealed but in light of the recent 12-inch MacBook 2016 release, the chance of an Air refresh happening appears to dim by the day. As analysts have noted, the 12-inch MacBook build, design and functions are mostly redundant with that of the MacBook Air, somehow triggering the speculations that the latter is on its way out.
Also, the rumored demise of the MacBook Air is likely to be expedited by the overhauled MacBook Pro 2016, which according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo will represent a giant leap for the line. Unboxing in 13-inch and 15-inch form factors, the devices will be slimmer and lighter than ever that in the process will kill the MacBook Air.
Apple, however, is not saying anything on the matter and the only faint signal that the MacBook Air will still get a 2016 sequel was provided by the Japanese blog MacOtakara. In a recent report, the Mac fan site said that new MacBook Airs are being mass produced and should hit the market ahead of the MacBook Pro 2016 debut.
Kuo predicted that the MacBook Pro 2016 release date will happen in the last quarter of the year or October at the earlier, thereby positioning the MacBook Air 2016 for rollout time that likely is set between August and September.
