NVIDIA is pushing out the third addition to its GeForce 10 series cards with the scheduled introduction of the Pascal-based GTX 1060 on July 7. Release date will happen the following week or July 13 and price starts at $250 for the younger sibling to GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.
In a report, WCCF Tech said that the graphic card will sell in two models - the 3GB variant will be made available starting at $249 while the 6GB is a bit pricey at $299. The GTX 1060, the report added, "will be the first graphics card to feature NVIDIA's latest GP106 GPU architecture."
"The GeForce GTX 1060 will mark the arrival of Pascal in the mainstream market. NVIDIA currently has the fastest and efficient high-end solutions in the market based on their GP104 GPU core," WCCF Tech reported, noting that with the intro of the cheaper card NVIDIA will both satisfy its high-end and mainstream customers.
Considering the launch timing and the pricing, it's obvious that the GTX 1060 is NVIDIA's answer to AMD's freshly unveiled RX 480. The Radeon card is expected for wide availability also this July but with more compelling price tags. The cash damage starts only at $199 for the 4GB model with the 8GB ready to take home for just $239 or $100 cheaper compared to the 3GB GTX 1060.
But for the more premium price, NVIDIA's card is seen to deliver the punch. In terms of performance, the GTX 1060 is likely to equal what gamers have experienced with the GeForce GTX 970 and GeForce GTX 980. And a bit of overclocking would see the GTX 1060 readily overwhelming "the flagship GM204 card," WCCF Tech said.
MobiPicker added in a report that the latest in the GeForce 10 series will be the default successor to the 950M and 960M. "The performance delivered by the new cards will obviously be significantly better than the 950M and 960M because of the upgraded memory and the new Pascal architecture with the 16nm FinFET process," the report said.
And as a Pascal-based GPU, clock speed can go beyond 1.5GHz without glitch, according to WCCF Tech, adding that "the GeForce GTX 1060 will also be using the reference Pascal display configuration of three DVI 1.4, single HDMI 2.0b and also a single DVI port."
