The Philippine men's basketball team (Smart Gilas Pilipinas) looks wrap up their build up for the FIBA Olympic qualifier on a high note as they once again duke it out with Turkey on Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.
What's at Stake:
Philippines: After losing to Turkey by as much as 36 points in their first confrontation, the Philippines is gunning for a payback in front of the home crowd.
Moreover, not only erasing the memory of the beatdown they suffered at the hands of the Turks two weeks ago is motivating Tab Baldwin' guys. They also want to prove to Turkey's coach that impossible things can happen, even more on home turf.
Turkey: As for the visiting team, this final tune-up game against the Philippines will give them the opportunity to measure up the Gilas final 12 lineup. It also gives them the opportunity to back up their coach's claim that the Philippines has slim to zero chance of beating European powerhouse France on July 5.
Players to Watch:
Philippines: For the RP team, all eyes will be on Terrence Romeo, who is coming off an 18-point performance against China in their meeting in Italy few days ago, Romeo, who hit two crucial treys down the stretch to fend off China's late run, will have another shot at the very same Turkish squad that smothered him in the first match.
Turkey: As if NBA veterans Omar Asik and Irsan Ilyasova weren't enough, Turkey has another offensive option in the presence of prospect Cedi Osman. The 31st overall pick in the 2015 Draft, the 21-year old winger gave the Philippine's defense all kinds of trouble in their last meeting and is expected to do so in their upcoming match.
