LG Electronics has officially announced it will introduce its first luxury smartwatch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona.
To be marketed under the name LG Watch Urbane, this Android powered timepiece is LG's latest addition to its line of smartwatch models, the G Watch and G Watch R.LG. Watch Urbane, like previous LG smartwatches, features a 1.3-inch, circular OLED screen.
The latest offering, however, features an all-metal body with leather straps the folks at LG called "classic circular, like a real watch". The South Korean tech giant intends to market this new offering as a classic timepiece, a luxury smartwatch that will appeal to both men and women.
"The LG Watch Urbane's classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices," said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Mobile according to TechCrunch .
The device will be available in gold and silver metal finish. It's powered by Qualcomm's 1.2 gigahertz Snapdragon 400 processor. This smartwatch also comes with a 512 megabyte RAM and 4 gigabyte memory.
It can also be synced with smartphones that run the latest Android OS. The market for early smartwatches is largely dominated by geeky and male buyers. In a press article by TechCrunch, it was noted that LG's decision to "focus into non-geek audience with smartwatch comes just weeks before" Apple Watch is expected to be released.
A few days ago, Apple officially announced and confirmed they're set to unveil their new smartwatch called the Apple Watch this April.
