In the wake of the Kickass Torrents' conundrum, several Steam users complained the service is censoring topics that discuss the torrent website's latest problem.
Many Steam users told Torrent Freak, "There is no warning or blocked message notification. The Messages simply disappeared." The report added that Torrent Freak tried some tests to confirm the problem and the test came out positive.
Reports also add the Kickass domain name was not the only one that was censored but the entire message containing the domain name.
Steam's intention as to why they're imposing censorship is still unclear. Valve, which is the owner of the Steam service, has not issued a comment about the news.
If Steam's intent was to censor Kickass because of the copyright infringement issue being faced by website, many analysts wonder why other domain name like The Pirate Bay and other torrent sites offering the same service were not affected.
Additionally, other domain names with links to Kickass were also flagged as potentially malicious. Users are receiving warning messages if they try to open the websites. These domain names still continue to show up in PM or private messages, however.
On Feb. 9, the Kickass domain using the Somali registry was seized by copyright holders. Many analysts pointed out the increasing popularity of the site is what made it a prime target for copyright advocates, according to Wired.
Kickass' popularity surged exponentially after The Pirate Bay was taken down for almost two months. This marked Kickass' rise as the number one torrent site in the internet.
