ASUS is late in delivering the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for their Zenfone 2 series but their Zenfone Zoom and Zenfone Selfie are now starting to receive the update.
Besides the ASUS Zenfone Selfie and the Zenfone Zoom, the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Tab E 8.0 devices are also receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. It has been several months after the new version has been released but the rollout has been proven to be slower as there are only a few smartphones that have adopted the version.
Google has just recently unveiled the new Android 7.0 Nougat version but the Android 6.0 Marshmallow version hasn't been widely adopted yet. Most of the smartphones running the new software are the newer models and not the older ones from several years ago.
ASUS originally promised to bring their Android 6.0 Marshmallow version to their Zenfone 2 series by the end of Q2 2016 but it is now Q3 and not every phone in their line have received the update yet, Android Police has learned. The ZenFone Zoom and the Zenfone Selfie are now receiving the update via OTA.
Users who are still not receiving the OTA update may download the firmware from the official support website for the ZX551KL and ZD551KL phones. OTA updates usually roll out gradually region by region but the same update can be downloaded from ASUS websites if they have already uploaded the files.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update includes the removal of several apps that some may consider bloatware. ZenFlash, ASUS Backup and some Google apps have been removed but they can still be downloaded and installed again upon the user's preference.
T-Mobile has also rolled out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge devices on Friday, Design & Trend reported. Verizon is also releasing the Marshmallow update for Samsung Galaxy Tab E 8.0 owners which will also have some of the apps removed to give more space for the user.
Besides the security fixes, there are also some claimed performance improvements on the new update. ASUS Zenfone Zoom, Zenfone Selfie, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Tab E 8.0 owners can now download Android 6.0 Marshmallow on their devices.
