The Golden State Warriors already won the free agency game with their acquisition of Kevin Durant.
Now they still have roster spots to fill and hardly any cap space to spend. This may seem like a serious predicament, but players are actually lining up to join them.
The phenomenon of title chasers taking a minimum salary to join a contender is nothing new. David West did it last year with the San Antonio Spurs and instead of entertaining bigger offers, he elected to do so again.
Now there are reports that David Lee, a familiar face from the Warriors is also interested in joining the fun. This was insinuated by TMZ.
"We're still trying to figure it out," the 33-year-old former All-Star told us.
"Everything goes from what K.D. did and that kind of sets the table for the rest of the league."
Lee is not expected to land a big contract in the league and if he can help with the Warriors, that would be the best scenario-with him getting another ring in the process.
Speaking of winning a ring, the Warriors are now attracting players who have retired (or if not officially retired, not playing in the league anymore). Another familiar face, center Jermaine O'Neal, may be slated for a comeback.
In a report from Fansided, O'Neal quoted Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group which stated that the former Warrior who missed out on Golden State's title run in 2015 is "game" for s comeback.
But Fansided is not all giddy about this. "O' Neal has not played a NBA game in more than two years and was immediately interested in joining the Warriors after Durant made his big decision. At least O'Neal can 'claim' that he previously played in Golden State as compared to others who will be seemingly jumping on the bandwagon."
Despite all the criticism being hurled at Durant, like Charles Barkley saying that he is "cheating his way to a championship" or Stephen A. Smith calling it "the weakest move done by a superstar," many current and former NBA players want to join in.
Ultimately, players want to win and basketball is a team sport. Durant understood that and his yearning for a championship along with his admiration for the team ball that Golden State was playing led to his decision. It's probably these same reasons leading these players back to the Bay Area.
