The NBA trade rumors continue and the Danny Ainge confirms what everyone in the basketball world suspected: The Boston Celtics are not done.
In an interview with Chris Forsberg of ESPN, the Celtics' main decision maker just made some obvious points official. He talked about the recruiting process and how they got Tom Brady, before he proceeded to talk about next season.
Ainge had strong words about Kevin Durant joining the Golden State Warriors. "Listen, they are an outstanding team. And nobody can deny the great talent that they have," Ainge said. "But we're not going to just lay down and die, I'll tell you that."
If Ainge wants to give the Warriors a fight, it's clear that their current roster would not be able to do it. Even if they added their no.3 overall pick Jaylen Brown and Al Horford, that would probably not be enough.
Which is why Ainge has mentioned that they are not done yet. He was also specific and candid about his team needs.
"We need more shooting. We have some guys who are versatile and can play center and 4 [power forward]. We can use a stronger center, and those are the two biggest things. Maybe another ball-handler as well."
A "stronger center" were the most resonant words that he said. It already opened up a gallery of possible Boston Celtics targets including the most obvious-DeMarcus Cousins.
Since we're all about stating the obvious, Michael Felger of CSN New England asked the question-is DeMarcus Cousins the answer to the stronger center?
In the video, he mentioned that many players' trade values have dropped since the draft and Felger did confirm that Cousins is the player that the Celtics are targeting. However, he noted that the Celtics, despite having the most trade assets, will not be alone in this competition.
Felger warns that the Celtics should not take a hardline stance when trading for a talent like Cousins. That was partly the reason the Celtics have yet to execute a trade at this time. Ainge should not be focusing on winning every trade, sometimes he has to overpay just to get the talent that he wants-and Cousins is definitely worth it.
