"19 Kids and Counting" alum Derick Dillard recently admitted that his wife Jill wasn't his first girlfriend.
In the book "Growing Up Duggar," Dillard said that the concept of chaperoning was new to him when he started dating Jill. This was because he came from previous relationships where he could just hang out with his girlfriend whenever they wanted to.
"I had a couple of girlfriends before meeting Jill, and chaperoning was new to me. But just because I had handled relationships one way in the past doesn't mean I couldn't do it differently going forward," he said.
Meanwhile, the Jim Bob and Michelle have instilled proper dating values amongst their 19 children, and they have also encouraged them to focus on dating with a purpose.
This concept meant that they will only date someone if they have the intention of marrying them in the end. The concept also stands firm over the rule that the Duggars and their boyfriends and girlfriends cannot engage in any form of physical contact.
According to Design N Trend, these rules also include holding each other's hands which Jim Bob and Michelle said should only be done when the couple is already engaged.
If the Duggars' children want to go out on dates, they also need to be chaperoned by an adult. All phone calls and text messages are also carefully screened with Jim Bob and Michelle to ensure that there will be no indecent conversations.
In other news, even if the Duggars set such very firm rules about dating, this does not mean that all of their children were able to follow them.
Also in the same book, Jill's sister Jessa Seewald confirmed that she and her husband Ben engaged in physical contact even before they got engaged.
The "Jill & Jessa: Counting On" star also shared that some of her phone calls with Ben, especially those that took place very late at night, were no longer screened by her parents.
At present, excerpts from "Growing Up Duggar" can be found on the family's official blog site.
Some fans believe that the real of the edited version of the book was done recently to encourage fans to once again talk about the Duggar family.
