China Mobile, the world's largest mobile carrier, is tapping wider choices of economical 4G models and more number of 4G base stations to add another 250 million 4G users before 2016.
The statistic is more than double of the current figure of China Mobile's 4G users. The mobile carrier has listed more than 100 million 4G users by the end of January.
Apart from adding a sizable number of 4G subscribers, China Mobile also targets to build a million more 4G base stations by the end of the year. As of this writing, it has more than 700,000 4G base stations scattered across the nation.
This 2015, the 4G market is expected to see head-to-head competition among telecom firms. China Mobile rivals, China Unicom and China Telecom, are acquiring new 4G licenses utilizing the Frequency Division Duplex - Long Term Evolution (FDD- LTE) technology on Thursday.
This technological move from both companies is seen as a significant competitive advantage against China Mobile's 4G services that are based on the country-innovated Time Division (TD) - LTE technology.
Big names such as Xiaomi's Redmi 2 and Apple's iPhone 6 have shown support to China Mobile's 4G Network earlier in January. Around 65 percent of the mobile products cost 1,300 yuan ($208) at most.
In 2014, the cellular provider reached its 50 million year-end target as early as October.
Meanwhile, Xinhua also reported that China Mobile is eyeing to develop 5G technology to secure more users in the coming years after its success in the 4G arena.
