The UFC and the WWE showed the world that both brands can work together if they wanted to through UFC 200. Brock Lesnar, still under contract with the WWE fought and won over Mark Hunt though it was the curious promotion of WWE SummerSlam that comes as a surprise.
According to the Bloody Elbow, the promotion was part of a unique deal involving the UFC and the WWE. The Vince McMahon-led company did its share of helping promote UFC 200. That included streaming the Brock Lesnar weigh-in via the WWE official website.
In return, Dana White wanted to return the favor and this came in the form of promoting WWE SummerSlam which takes place on Aug. 21. The WWE already announced that Lesnar will be facing a returning Randy Orton in one of the cards.
White also revealed details on how they were able to enlist Brock Lesnar for UFC 200. It turns out that White met with Lesnar’s team along with Triple H (Paul Levesque) and Vince McMahon. While White and McMahon don’t really see eye-to-eye, the former believes that the WWE CEO has loosened up a bit when it comes to the UFC.
As most know by now, Lesnar was triumphant with an overpowering performance against Mark Hunt. It now begs to ask if UFC fans will get to see more Lesnar fights in the future.
Most believe that it may happen though future collaboration between the UFC and the WWE could cover other stars. One notable star is Ronda Rousey who has yet to return from her hiatus.
Rousey has been out of the UFC scene since falling to Holly Holm. The UFC believes “Rowdy” will be returning before the year ends and such could open up further opportunities. That includes a possible appearance at Wrestlemania 33 next year.
Rousey made a rare appearance at Wrestlemania 31 alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson last year. With the huge impact, WWE fans were hoping to see the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion at Wrestlemania 32. Though that never happened, a new pact between the two rival companies could finally set the stage for Rousey in the WWE ring.
