Inter Milan team captain Mauro Icardi is rumored to be set for a €50 million summer transfer move to La Liga's Atletico Madrid as the Italian Serie A club is keen on making a profit out of the Argentine footballer.
Atletico Madrid is said to have been given a major "boost in their pursuit" of the 23-year-old striker on Sunday after reports went out that I Nerazzurri was looking for a buyer for their team skipper, as per Caught Offside.
Inter, which is speculated to be having a lot of financial issues lately, was recently taken over by Chinese firm Suning Holding Group, who bought almost 70 percent of the club's stake. It is expected that the Chinese influence will help in their finances and selling their top striker could be one of the moves initiated by the new owners.
Icardi's wife and agent, Wanda Nara, posted in her social media account last weekend about her husband and client's impending exit from San Siro, saying that "Icardi would like to stay at Inter, but the club wants to sell and ask for more than €50m", which comes with a hashtag of #Calciomercato meaning "transfer market" in English.
Speculations abound that the 5-foot-11 Rosario, Argentina native and the Serie A club is still at a disagreement over Icardi's new deal as Inter is not ready to give in to his demands, which more likely lead to a separation this summer.
Los Colchoneros is said to be "ready to swoop in as they continue to monitor the situation with a view of taking full advantage of any breakdown in talks". Head coach Diego Simeone is also rumored to be desiring a potential three-pronged attack with Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Torres in a 4-3-3 with Icardi in the middle up front.
Meanwhile, Wanda later confirmed her post to reporters, telling them that "from what I can see, Inter have put Icardi up for sale".
"Mauro would be very sad to leave Inter, but we've understood the club's economic situation and evidently they cannot hold Icardi back," she added, according to 90min.
Icardi had just finished his third season with La Beneamata since he was acquired in the summer of 2013 from fellow Serie A squad Sampdoria for a fee of €11.7 million. He scored 52 goals in a total of 105 appearances in all competitions for Inter during the course of his three-year stay with the club.
