The "Saturday Night Live" 40th Anniversary Special show was indeed a very special episode. This four-decade long show has featured many A-listed stars where hosts entertained them by comedy sketches that parody contemporary culture and politics.
The star-studded last night gala of "SNL 40" featured Taylor Swift, Betty White, Kerry Washington, Bradley Cooper and Laraine Newman on "The Californians," the recurring "SNL" sketch that parodies a soap opera featuring Kristen Wiig as Karina, Bill Hader as Devin, Fred Armisen as Stuart, Kenan Thompson as Trey and Vanessa Hudgens as Rosa.
While the sketch, which has been on television longer than any other sketch comedy, did not put the guest stars in their best use as Swift did not sing, White and Cooper made out at the end.
Many old sketches were also revived. In one of the revived sketch, Dan Aykroyd courageously ran through his lines while feeding fish into a blender on a fake late-night ad for Bass-o-Matic, which did not seem funny. Another revival "Celebrity Jeopardy!" parody with Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery and Will Ferrell as Alex Trebek and Alec Baldwin as Tony Bennett was a bit better than other revived parodies.
With everything else, the "SNL 40" last night gala show was a long, hysterical, and filled with laughter and some special moments and the show was stolen by "The Californians" star Wiig as she cracked the most rib-tickling lines among all the Californians making the gala show very special for everyone who visited and watched the show.
