Beyonce was mocked on Twitter after fans noticed her delayed reaction after Serena Williams clinched the Wimbledon championship Saturday. It seemed that the superstar looked confused before she joined the rest of the crowd in applauding Williams for the win.
After Williams hit the match-winning shot to defeat Angelique Kerber for her 22nd Grand Slam title, the crowd jumped to its feet to celebrate. However, in a series of photos posted on MailOnline, Beyonce was seen still sitting on her seat while Williams' family and entourage in the player's box were already up, jubilantly cheering on the victory. Her husband Jay-Z, who was next to her, instantly rose up with the crowd when the point was won; however, it took a few moments before "Queen Bey" stood up, pumped her fists and clapped her hands, thus earning jeers from several Twitter users.
One Twitter user claimed that the 34-year old superstar doesn't know a thing about tennis and that she was in attendance only to support her good friend Williams, as seen in one of several reactions displayed in the Mirror. Another stated that she looked bewildered and just seemed to take her cue from the audience, while one other user insinuated that the singer's sports knowledge is limited to only basketball.
Williams netted her seventh Wimbledon championship, defeating the second-ranked Kerber in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. The current world number one tied the record held by Steffi Graf with the most Grand Slams in women's tennis. She can go for the solo record if she wins the US Open Championships in Flushing, NY in the summer.
Beyonce supported her good friend not only by being present at the match, but by also adhering to the tradition of the All-England Club. The celebrity wore a white lace dress, fitting in with the all-white theme of Wimbledon. Her husband Jay-Z was also clad in white, wearing a simple long-sleeved shirt.
The 34-year old Williams also reinforced their friendship when she appeared in the music video of Beyonce's hit single "Sorry." Beyonce was in the UK for her Formation World Tour.
